It’s hard to believe that our first work week is almost finished! We completed roof coverings for two garbage huts, and have started a third. Repairs on a local bus stop are nearly finished. The group has worked hard on continuing to paint the elderly woman’s house in the community that we started on Monday; it is now almost done.
We incorporated two beach clean-ups into our work, with the first being particularly successful! We managed to fill a whole roll of garbage bags. That beach, which serves as a fishing port, is much cleaner now. We were also able to glean a lot of trash from a second, albeit less-trafficked, beach that is farther down the road.

We began to get some creative juices flowing by starting to paint and decorate our newly improved garbage huts. The first coat of paint went on today, and tomorrow we plan to add designs.
In the afternoons, we have enjoyed the beaches, as well as some frisbee, soccer, card games, and playing guitar. On Tuesday we paid a visit to the house of local historian Lennox Honeychurch, where we listened to a talk about the history of Dominica and enjoyed the views from his place on Turtle Point.

Now we look forward to the weekend!
