Cement Mixing and Chocolate Making

This post features student writing.

Hello, Putney People!

Greetings from Dominica. It’s day five, and we are all still alive 🙂 Today, we woke up to some cold milk for our cereal and yogurt, which was wonderful. Our workday was immensely productive thanks to a concrete mixer that was brought in. The floor of the hurricane shelter is finished!

Wrapping up the work day with some yummy sandwiches, we got ready for our trip to the chocolate factory. Yum! From harvest to final product, we got the walk-through of chocolate making 101. Some taste testing convinced everyone to buy some chocolates with flavors like hot pepper and lemongrass. Some of the chocolate might just make it home for you to try.

A few starfruits and a very cute puppy later, we were heading back to the resource center where we are staying. Ten minutes later, we were off again walking to the beach. A hardcore hike down earned us a gorgeous view with refreshing water to wash away the day’s grime.

Wrapping up the day with some amazing rice, beans, carrots, and chicken, we are ready for bed so we can rest up for tomorrow.

Lots of love,

Martina & Jaz
